Laser scar removal

Our center performs scar removal procedures employing a new-generation fractional laser. According to the world doctors’ and experts’ review, it is the best choice for the removal of scars, which remain after acne, post-operative as well as post-traumatic and other skin defects (wrinkles, stretch marks). This method can be justly called a revolution of the past 20 years in laser medicine. Comparing to previously used methods, this procedure is more effective, fast, painless and safe.

Fraction laser principle

Previously, laser oblation was used in removing skin defects. At that time, a solid upper layer of the skin was removed. It was a complicated procedure, requiring anesthesia with a long recovery period (about 1 month). There was a high risk of side effects too. Nowadays, the fractional laser removes only 0.3 - 0.4 mm of skin in diameter, about 1.5 mm of skin depth (fraction) and such 1 cm2 fractions can make up from 36 to 100 units. The skin between the fractions remains healthy and undamaged. Healthy and undamaged skin among fractions causes a rapid recovery after the procedure. About 20 % of the skin surface is removed during one procedure. Thus, within 4-5 procedures the whole surface of the skin is replaced.

How many procedures do I need?
From 3 to 5 procedures.

Is laser scar removal painful?
The procedure is well tolerated. It is a little bit more sensitive around the eyes and in the upper lip area. If there is a need, a pain reducing cream can be used in these areas.

How long does the procedure take?
Scar removal procedure, depending on the place of the performance, on average lasts from 10 to 40 minutes.

Recommendations before scar treatment:
1. 4-6 weeks before the procedure, you must avoid tanning in the solarium, or sunbathing; don’t use self-tanners.

Recommendations after scar treatment:

- Avoid sunbathing or tanning in the solarium during 3-5 months after the procedure is conducted. Use sun protection products. If procedures are planned, sun avoidance between procedures is required.
- Do not rub or scratch the skin, avoid doing active sports and getting injuries until the post-operative changes completely pass away (about 1 week).
- Make-up can be applied in 1-2 days. Men can have a shave the next day.
